Alpha was engaged by AECOM to provide Engineering Consultancy Services on this Water and Sewage Authority (WASA) Project. This  included yield hydrology investigation and analysis of surface water supplies; evaluation of existing transmission main and distribution pipe network using WASA GIS and filling in with field information; network modeling using WaterCAD for existing system and proposed system inclusive of storage tanks, and pump station designs.

The scope included:
  • Hydrological analysis of the Caparo river basin. The assessment of existing surface reservoirs by hydrological analyses to determine the feasibility of conjunctive use with new and existing well supplies in the  area.
  • The analyses were carried out to determine the operating conditions for the 25‐Year and 50‐Year Drought recurrence intervals, which involved: rainfall analysis; catchment definition and analysis, field verification and water balance modeling.
  • The preliminary designs and network analyses (using WaterCAD) for upgrading transmission and distribution mains to the wider area; inclusive of the determination of the need for and sizing of pump stations and storage tanks to satisfy the projected peak daily demand for potable water in the year 2030, as well as the projected fire storage.
